Even though it is approximately 8,000 degrees in Los Angeles, I still like to spend as much time outside as possible. Since I haven’t been able to run or cycle because of a stubborn IT band injury, I’ve decided to compensate by hiking! I went for two hikes last week—Runyon Canyon and Mount Hollywood. The Mount Hollywood hike was by far my favorite. It was a little under 4 miles, not crowded at all, and had beautiful views of the Hollywood Sign, Downtown LA, and the Valley. The only drawback was that I forgot water :/ Would NOT recommend.
Spartan Race WOD
I found myself at the gym earlier this week, unmotivated and wandering around. Then I remembered Spartan’s Workout of the Day (WOD). Spartan Race (an obstacle course race series) posts a workout every day! I immediately happened upon Monday’s “Strength: Medusa’s Challenge Plus.” The main set of the workout included 1 minute of 11 different exercises, with a 10 second rest between. Repeat 1-4 times. I thought I’d power through 3 or 4. I barely made it through 2. Anyway, I love Spartan’s Workout of the Day. The workouts are tough, but doable, and challenge my body in ways that a typical gym workout or run doesn’t. I’d definitely recommend checking them out!

I can’t believe it took me so long to finally try Gracias Madre—a vegan, 100% organic Mexican restaurant in West Hollywood. Vegan Mexican food?! Yup, you heard it right. I’ll be honest. I actually did not know that it was a plant-based restaurant until I was perusing the menu and kept seeing “cashew cheese.” I was a bit hesitant about how Mexican food would taste without dairy or meat. Gracias Madre did not disappoint. We ordered the Dinner Tasting Menu so we could try as many different dishes as possible. My favorites—The Quesadilla de Calabaza (which was stuffed with butternut squash) and the Tacos (full of flash fried cauliflower and grilled squash with salsa verde). If you happen to find yourself at Gracias Madre, do yourself a favor and order a Margarita. You’re welcome. I’ll definitely be returning to try more dishes and write up a full blog post on my favorite ones!
