Motivation Monday: Summer Goals!

096A2070

I have always been a huge fan of goal setting.  It helps me focus, keeps me motivated, and allows me to feel accomplished (once I reach my goals, of course!).  Long-term goals are important (1 year, 5 year, 10 year), but I also really enjoy setting short-term goals (monthly and seasonal).  Olivia and I are in some of the most chaotic, exciting, and terrifying years of our lives.  We are fresh out of college, starting a business, and working to “find ourselves” (so cliché but true).  That’s why we decided to make some summer goals for ourselves to help keep us on track and focused.  Check them out and let us know what you think!  We also challenge you all to set a few summer goals for yourselves and share them with us!

Dempsey’s Summer Goals:

1. Train Smart for My Half Ironman

My first half ironman is in October and I have been training for about 2 months.  I want to continue to follow my training plan as closely as I can, but also recognize when my body (or mind) needs a break and respect that.  There will be a lot of “firsts” this summer in my training but I hope to emerge stronger physically and mentally.

2. Continue to Build The Website

This is pretty self-explanatory but I want to create awesome content (videos, photos, blog posts) for you guys.  It will require a lot of brainstorming, planning, and work, but I want to build this website into a full-on business with products (Olivia’s Nutrition Plan and my Workout Plan), giveaways, and helpful information!

3. Don’t Be Too Hard On Myself

I am a HUGE perfectionist.  It is the reason why I was successful in school and sports, but it is also my downfall.  I tend to beat myself up if things aren’t absolutely perfect.  My goal this summer is to be a little bit more lenient with myself.  Everything doesn’t always need to be perfect all the time.

4. Be Open To Experiences

I want to say yes to any and all opportunities that come my way.  Sometimes I get bogged down by the details of a situation and turn down experiences that would otherwise be really exciting and fun.  This summer I want to say YES! Yes to anything (okay, almost anything) that comes my way.  Because life is about experiences.  And I want experiences!!!!

Olivia’s Summer Goals:

1. Finish My Nutrition Plan

I have provided lots of fun and healthy recipes on the website but ultimately I want to link my food to a way of life.  Over the past few months, I have been developing a nutrition plan called Foodana. It takes the Buddhist theory of moderation and applies it to food.  My goal is to have this launched by September!!

2. Diversify My Workouts

My favorite type of exercise is running.  I run with my mom and sister about 5 times per week for anywhere from 5-8 miles.  That being said, I have never been much of an athlete and there is not much diversity to my workouts.  My goal this summer is to try out some other types of exercise.  I hope to start lifting weights and try out some classes at my gym.

3. Be Happy

Happiness is not a right, but rather it is a choice.  I graduated college a year ago and have spent the last year in a post-grad funk. I am living at home, working at my high school job, and trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.  But I do not want to focus on the bad.  My goal this summer is to stay positive and choose to be happy.

4. Travel

I want to use these last few months before I start graduate school in the fall to travel and explore.  I am going to Spain in about a week and a half and am also planning to visit Dempsey in California.  I also don’t want to pass up any opportunity to see or experience something new.  I will keep you all updated on my adventures!
